NFL: Brandon Jacobs to Gisele: 'Shut up'

Posted February 8, 2012

Tom Brady's teammates might not blast Gisele Bundchen for her comments about New England Patriots receivers, but New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs has no problem doing it.

"She just needs to continue to stay cute and shut up," he told reporters Tuesday at MetLife Stadium, where the Giants were honored for beating the Patriots 21-17 in Super Bowl XLVI.

Patriots receiver Wes Welker failed to make a difficult catch in the fourth quarter that might have helped New England ice a victory. Tight end Aaron Hernandez and wide receiver Deion Branch also had balls hit off their hands during the Patriots' final desperation drive. (MORE>>>)

MLB Baseball: NLCS- Cardinals hope to 'deep 6' the Brewers

Posted October 16, 2011

The Cardinals began their unlikely run for the wild card spot about the time they swept the Brewers in Miller Park at the end of August.

Now they are back in Milwaukee, playing Game 6 of the National League Championship Series. And while they knew they could have another chance Monday, if necessary, their focus was on Sunday.

“One of the neatest things about what's happened to our club from whenever we started smelling a chance to get into the eight-game playoffs,” manager Tony La Russa said, “was we took the attitude that tomorrow is the last game of our lives, which means you don't think about anything beyond that.” (MORE>>>)

MLB Baseball: Tigers send Scherzer to extend ALCS

Posted October 15, 2011

A few years ago, Max Scherzer was pitching in the Dallas/Fort Worth area while his professional career was on hold.

On Saturday, the young Detroit right-hander will be back in the same neighborhood, pitching to keep the resolution of the American League Championship Series on hold.

Justin Verlander and Co. sent the ALCS back to Texas, and now it will be up to Scherzer to send it to a Game 7 when he duels left-hander Derek Holland in Rangers Ballpark. The FOX broadcast of Game 6 begins at 7:30 p.m. ET, with first pitch scheduled for 8:05. (MORE>>>)

MLB Baseball: Verlander delivers when Tigers need him the most

Posted October 14, 2011

Everyone is going to be talking about Detroit's big inning on Thursday and the fortuitous bounce that probably saved their season for at least another day.

But it is what happened in the top half of that inning that really allowed the Tigers to head back to Arlington for a Game 6 and, of course, they have their future American League Cy Young Award winning right-hander Justin Verlander to thank for it.

MLB Baseball: Extra, extra! Nelson Cruz hits another dramatic HR for Rangers

Posted October 13, 2011

The Texas tag team of Nelson Cruz and Mike Napoli was too much for the Detroit Tigers.

Cruz made a rocket throw to keep the score tied, then hit a crushing three-run home run in the 11th inning off Jose Valverde that helped send the Rangers over the Tigers 7-3 Wednesday night for a 3-1 lead in the AL Championship Series. Napoli had put Texas ahead with an RBI single earlier in the 11th. (MORE>>>)

Baseball: Brewers Advance by Beating Arizona In 10th

Posted October 7, 2011

10-07-2011: The man of many personas, Nyjer Morgan, flitted from euphoria to sadness in the aftermath of the most important hit of his career.

Morgan’s ground single through the middle delivered Carlos Gomez from second base in the 10th inning Friday, enabling Milwaukee to overcome closer John Axford’s first blown save in six months and eliminate Arizona, 3-2, in Game 5 of the teams’ National League division series.

After Morgan ran around the field, traded his batting helmet for one that read T Plush (after Tony Plush, one of his three alter egos) and accepted Champagne and beer baths from teammates, he walked to an unoccupied place in the clubhouse, sat cross-legged on the floor and began to cry. (MORE>>>)

Baseball Playoffs: Inside A-Rod's Spectacular Failure

Posted October 7, 2011

When Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Jose Valverde whiffed Alex Rodriguez late Thursday night, ending Game 5 of the American League Division Series, the Yankees Stadium boos never seemed louder. And A-Rod never seemed smaller.

Detroit had won a tense chess match. Combined, the teams made nine pitching changes. The Tigers advanced to the American League Championship Series, which begins on Saturday (the Texas Rangers host Detroit in Game 1). And through a wave of catcalls at the Stadium, and all kinds of snarky remarks in social media — “A-Fail” “AROD put on waivers” “vintage A-Rod” — a devastating reality set in for Yankees fans. A few short years ago, A-Rod seemed destined to pass Barry Bonds as the “clean” home run king. He'd go down as the greatest player of all-time.
